Wear purple on March 8th to commemorate International Women's Day — Viste de morado el 8 de marzo para conmemorar el Dia Internacional de la Mujer
As a studio founded and built by Mexican women, we want to acknowledge today as International Women's Day. More specifically, we want to bring attention to what this day means on a global level, and in particular in Mexico, where women across the country march for their rights and for justice in a country where feminicide is all too prevalent.
As they move their bodies in marches and in resistance, we move ours in solidarity with them from afar.
Femicide vs Feminicide
Femicidio vs Feminicidio
In English, femicide is the word most commonly used to describe the murder of women by men. Feminicide has become a term to describe femicide in the context of the systemic failure to protect women and the impunity that is often seen in these cases.
This word has become widely used across Latin America to better describe the complexity and specificity of the issue — it names not just the act of violence, but the structural conditions that allow it to continue.
